Mrs. Sarah Grace Cross Tenney, 87, a resident of Cascade, Maryland, departed this life early Wednesday morning, Aug. 27, 2025, in the home of her daughter at Sabillasville, Maryland. Death was following a period of declining health.

She was born Dec. 8, 1937 at Belington, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Porter Lovett and Nancy Ellen Harvey Cross.

On Sept. 26, 1959, she was united in marriage to Carl Jean Tenney, who preceded her in death on July 6, 1997.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Christena Ann Evans of Junior and Nancy Stefan and husband, Jim, of Maryland; one son, Jonathan Tenney of Georgia; two sisters, Wilma Shue of West Virginia and Hallie Shahan of Texas; and two brothers, Junior and wife, Phyllis Cross, and William Bill Cross, both of Belington, West Virginia; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Tenney and wife, Heather, Ida Evans, Angela Murray and husband, Joe, Raechel Stefan, and Sarah Phebus and husband, Jason.

Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Jennie Cline, Shirley Kelley, Edna Cross and Dorothy Tenney; one brother, George Melvin Cross; and one infant great-granddaughter, Ona.

Sarah attended the Schools of Barbour County and started her career by attending nursing school and becoming a registered nurse. She then worked for several years in various medical facilities in Georgia and Maryland. She was a member of the Independent Church of God in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Monday Sept. 1, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. and again on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, from 8-11 a.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie Tallman officiating.

Interment will then follow in the Stringtown Cemetery near Belington.
