Dr. David Jay Currence

He was born March 19, 1967, in Elkins, a son of the late David James “Jim” Currence and Helen “Jean” Currence. He is survived by one sister, Donna Canfield and husband, Lee, of Elkins.

David was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1985 and West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1989 where he received the Beta Beta Beta Biology Honorary Award. He graduated from West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1994 and finished his Family Practice residency at West Virginia University in 1997.

He had worked in private practice for many years as a Family Practitioner and later worked for Valley Health Care. He had been the Medical Director of Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center and Mountain Hospice.

He loved the outdoors, nature, working his land and reading. He was a Methodist by faith.

Friends may call from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel. Rev. Robert Baer, Jr. will officiate, and interment will follow at Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Airport Road.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Randolph County Humane Society, P. O. Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Dr. Currence.
