Joy Lynnette ‘Lynn’ Clark Suder

SUDER

Joy Lynnette “Lynn” Clark Suder, 78, originally from Elkins, West Virginia, and more recently a resident of West Union, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, in Emplify Health by Gundersen-West Union, after a long battle with multiple illnesses.

She was born on Thursday, Nov. 14, 1946, to the late Ronald Eugene and Sylvia Marie (Tinney) Clark in Elkins, West Virginia. She was considered a “baby boomer” and a “post-war baby” and was very proud of it.

She attended the schools of Randolph County and graduated at a young age of 17 with her G.E.D. She continued the love of learning through gardening books, cookbooks, and technology. She held many jobs including insurance receptionist, emergency room registration and outpatient clerk, seafood chef and assistant librarian all within Elkins.

She loved gardening and bird watching. In her later years, she enjoyed sitting by the window and watching the birds and clouds pass by without a care in the world. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed gospel songs along with Kitaro, Kansas, and other music groups.

She was twice married in 1965 to the late Robert “Bob” Franklin and in 1982 to the late David Newcome Suder. Even though the marriages didn’t work out, she enjoyed her time with them and traveling around. She mentioned going on a motorcycle to Florida on a whim with Bob and gardening and canning with Dave.

Lynn was proceeded in death by her parents, grandparents, two infant sisters (stillborn at birth): Janet Susan Clark (1941) and Nancy Hope Clark (1948), aunts and uncles, Dr. O. Byrne Tinney Jr., Mary Weiford, George Tinney, Glenn Tinney and Bernard Tinney.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Emil Suder of West Union, Iowa; and many cousins in West Virginia.

She was a nine-year member of Glenville Lodge 105 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. She joined the Order when Emil was General Commanding of the world in 2015-2016.

Emil wishes to thank the special angels that helped her through the last part of her journey. At (Emplify Health) Gundersen Palmer, Chris, Taylor, Megan, Wendy, Lindie, Deb, Crystal and Brenda. For the family, Jesse Likens and his family, and the many friends in West Virginia.

Per her request, there will be no services and cremation will be honored.
