Sandra Sue ‘Sandy’ Skidmore Karlen

Sandy was born Saturday, Nov. 27, 1943, in Owing, a daughter of the late Ray Skidmore and Edith Hughes Skidmore.

On July 13, 1963, she married Harold Glen Karlen Jr., who survives at home. They celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Left to cherish her memory are three children, Michael Karlen and wife, Susan, Schell Hopwood and husband, Kurt, Scott Karlen and wife, Lisa, all of Elkins; grandchildren, Jima Karlen and companion Jon, Amber Gainer and husband, Cody, Kollin Hopwood and wife, Katie, Karli Harlan and husband, Cole, Alec Karlen and companion, Hunter, Isabella Karlen and fiance, Ben, and Hudson; great-grandchildren, Andi, Karder, Max, Woods and Kooper; siblings, Jack Skidmore and wife, Linda, Geraldine Davis; niece, Barbara Meganthaler, whom she considered a sister; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were four siblings, Dale, Marie, David and Ronal.

Sandy was a graduate of Elkins High School. She had been employed at Bendix Radio in the blueprint room, graduated from Baltimore Beauty Academy and worked locally as a beautician. She retired from Kroger in Elkins after 20 years of service. Sandy enjoyed playing Bingo, shopping, and travelling; especially to anywhere by the ocean. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Above all, the most important thing to Sandy was her family.

Sandy’s request for cremation was honored.
