Robert L. Lindsay, 78, a resident of Valley Head, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. He had been declining in health since March 2025 and was under the care of West Virginia Caring Hospice.
He was born June 28, 1947, at Dailey, a son of the late Virgil Lindsay and Lola Pearl Hamrick.
On Oct. 6, 1972, he married Shirley Channell, who survives in Valley Head. They had just celebrated 53 years of marriage.
He is also survived by one daughter, Angela Lindsay Schoolcraft and husband, Kenneth, of Marlinton; one granddaughter, Sarah Faith Simmons and fiance, Matthew McCune, of Valley Head; a great-granddaughter, Oaklynn Reneigh McCune, Valley Head.
Five brothers, Willie, Billie, Tom, Stan and John Lindsay; and five sisters, Louise “Tiny”, Della Mae, Judy Ann, Darlene and Ruby also survive.
Also preceding him in death were one son, Robbie Lindsay, Jr., one sister, Lola Sharp and two nephews, Virgil Allen Lindsay and John Linday Jr.
Robert was a Veteran of the Vietnam War having served between 1968 -1970. He worked for the Valley Head Department of Highways for 32 years prior to his retirement in 2005 and was a member of the Valley Head Fire Department for 20 years. He was a member of the Point Mountain Church for 40 years and also a former member of the Valley Head Community Choir. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved riding in his side-by-side every day.
He loved going to church and loved his church family. When there was someone in need that needed help, he was always there. He loved family gatherings and spending time with his family, especially his pride and joy, Oaklynn.
He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Marshall Williams officiating.
Interment will follow in the Valley Head Cemetery, where Full Military Honors will be accorded by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
