Mary M. Arthur
ARTHUR
Mary M. Arthur, 71, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, at her home.
She was born Aug. 28, 1954, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to the late Joseph “Jody” Michael and Joann Cahill Michael.
Mary was an educator who received a master’s degree in education from The Ohio State University. She taught in multiple states including Tennessee, West Virginia and Ohio, with special needs education being her focus. Mary was presently employed by the Jackson City Schools, where she taught special needs at Northview Elementary.
Outside of teaching, Mary’s passion in life was helping taking care of others. She was the ultimate caregiver and was always concerned about others. Mary was a huge animal lover, specifically dogs, and was always looking out for the well-being of not only her own pets, but others as well.
Above all, Mary was very much a grandma; a role that she had always looked forward to but was cut short.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Cory and Megan Heflin; granddaughter, Scarlett “Scottie” Heflin; step-sons, Austin Arthur, Jack Arthur and Grant Arthur (Devon); step-granddaughters, Remington and Cameron Arthur; brother, Joseph Michael (Jan); sisters, Charlotte Critchfield (Tim) and Louise Michael; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Bonny and Jack Huffman and Brenda Weber; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends, including a very special relationship with Joanne Skaj.
Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Alan C. Arthur; and brother, Mike Michael.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation followed her passing.
In lieu of flowers, please give a donation in Mary’s memory to Jackson City Schools, where the donations will go directly to Northview Elementary to benefit the students that she is leaving behind, c/o Jackson City Schools, 450 Vaughn Street, Jackson, Ohio 45640 (subject line: In Memory of Mary Arthur) or the Jackson County Dog Pound, c/o Jackson County Commissioners, 275 Portsmouth Street, Jackson, Ohio 45640.
