Carolyn ‘Sue’ Howell Shreve

Carolyn “Sue” Howell Shreve, 78, a resident of the Stalnaker Run Road Community, Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Saturday morning, Nov. 15, 2025, at the WVU Medicine United Hospital Center at Bridgeport, West Virginia. She had been in declining health for the past two years.

She was born Monday, Jan. 13, 1947, at Cassidy, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Elmer Paul Howell and Marie Wiseman Howell Ross and her stepfather, John Ross.

On Jan. 12, 1965, at Oakland, Maryland, she was married to Donald Keith Shreve, who survives. They had celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Also surviving are one son, Donald “Kevin” Shreve and wife, Debbie, of Stalnaker Run; one sister, Brenda Elaine Weese and husband, Norris, of Elkins; one granddaughter, Toni Barger and husband, Tyler, of Buckhannon; one step-granddaughter, Crissi Marple and husband, Brock, of Buckhannon; one great-grandson, Hudson Barger; one step-great-grandson, Conner Marple; several nieces and nephews; and one great-niece.

Preceding her in death are two brothers, Victor Howell and Roger Howell; and one sister, Sandra Howell.

Sue was a graduate of Elkins High School, was a member of the Destiny Tabernacle of Praise and more recently a member of the Refuge Church. She was the co-owner of D & S Trucking Company and co-owner and operator of the Sure Catch Fish Farm and Hatchery for several years. Sue was a songwriter and enjoyed playing the piano. She loved going to church and spending time with her family.

The family will receive friends at the Refuge Church at Gilman from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 21, 2025.

Final Rites will be conducted from the church, Friday, at 1 p.m.

The Rev. Kevin Gainer will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia.
