Lewis Tingler, 99, a resident of Wymer, West Virginia, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, at the West Virginia Caring Hospice Inpatient Center in Elkins.
He would have been 100 years old on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025.
Lewis was born Dec. 13, 1925, at Whitmer, West Virginia, a son of the late Ted Tingler and Ethel Elza Tingler.
On May 14, 1947, at Oakland, Maryland, he was married to Thelma F. Long, who preceded him in death July 11, 2021.
He is survived by one son, David (Carolyn) Tingler, Romney, West Virginia; two daughters, Barbara (Jim) Hinkle, Dry Fork, West Virginia, and Donna (Sam) Knotts, Pickens, West Virginia; five grandchildren, Matthew Hinkle, Jeffrey Tingler, Samuel Knotts, Shelley Daugherty and Zachary Knotts; seven great-grandchildren, Mateo Hinkle, Spencer, Pierce and Peyton Daugherty, Sammy, Johnny and Anna Knotts and Jared Tingler.
One grandson, Eric Tingler, also preceded him in death, along with brothers, Hermie, Alonzo, Corbitt and Paul; sisters, Geraldine Raines, Louise Collett, Irene Zentz and infant Bonnie Tingler.
Lewis was employed as a school bus driver and mechanic for 34 years with the Randolph County Board of Education.
He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving during World War II in the South Pacific Islands. He was a life member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign War.
The family would like to thank close friends and neighbors, John Teter and family, for all their help and kindness.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, from the funeral home chapel.
Pastor Steve Wymer will officiate. Interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman, where full Military Honors will be accorded at the gravesite by members of the West Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard Program, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harman Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 131, Harman, WV 26270 in memory of Lewis.
The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Lewis Tingler.
