Robert Dale "Bob" McCauley Sr., 81, a resident of the Cravensdale Community, Elkins, West Virginia, passed away peacefully in his sleep with his dog Blu at his side Saturday morning, Dec. 27, 2025, at his home. He had been in declining health for the past year.
He was born Friday, Oct. 13, 1944, at Elkins, West Virginia, a son of the late Howard McCauley Sr. and Lena Moran McCauley.
On Aug. 23, 1970, he was married to the former Barbara Jean Crites, who preceded him in death Aug. 22, 2000.
Surviving are three sons, Robert Dale McCauley Jr. and wife, Ashley, of Elkins, Lucas Aaron McCauley of Coalton and Richard Allen McCauley and companion, April Kelley, of Elkins; one daughter, Anna Louise McCauley of Coalton; two sisters, Virginia Rose Valentine of Elkins and Nelda Jo McMillen; 10 grandchildren, Dreyton McCauley, Alayna Paige McCauley, Tristan Brooke McCauley, Grayson Matthew McCauley, Mattelyn Haney, Braxtyn Haney, Malachi McCauley, Emerick Brady-Jagger McCauley, Dalton McCauley and Jameson McCauley; two great-grandchildren, Piper Leann Morris and Wylder Lewis; and caregiver "My Sweetie" Savanna Cummings of Elkins.
Preceding him in death are one brother, Howard McCauley Jr.; and two sisters, Helen Leary and Iladell Lambert.
Bob was a graduate of Elkins High School and had worked for the WV Department of Highways in the sign department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting and spending his spare time at Wheelers and Crazy Harry's socializing.
He loved being "Grandpa Bob" to and playing with his grandchildren.
Bob was a very caring individual, who would give you the shirt off his back.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.
Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, at 11 a.m.
The Rev. Jamie Andrews will officiate, and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia, where full military honors will be accorded by members of the WV National Guard Honor Guard Program, the H. W. Daniel's Post 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
