Rodney (Rod) James Travise

TRAVISE

It is with great sadness that the family of Rodney (Rod) James Travise announces his passing. Rodney departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 2, 1951, in Elkins, West Virginia, Rodney was a proud 1970 graduate of Coalton High School in Coalton, West Virginia. He was a long-time resident of Virginia Beach, having previously lived in Coalton, West Virginia.

Rodney was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Larry Vincent Travise; as well as his parents, Freda Gertrude Travise and Williard “Pete” Travise.

Rodney leaves behind a legacy of love through his three children, Christopher Travise and wife, Stacy, of Southport, North Carolina; Rodney Travise and wife, Crystal, of Denton, North Carolina, and Stephanie Camp and husband, Joel, of Roanoke, Virginia.

He was a cherished grandfather to six granddaughters–Kenley, Stella, Sofia, Mackenzie, Taylor, and Tori–and two grandsons, Tristan and Andrew.

He is also survived by his sister, Cindy Chewning and husband, Jimmy, of Florida; and a special niece, Amy Hunsberger and husband, Jason, of Virginia Beach; along with nephew, Scott Chewning, and wife, Amy, of Virginia Beach; and niece, Andrea Chewning of Indiana.

A passionate artist, Rodney had a gift for drawing and painting, sharing his creativity with family and friends. Known for his sense of humor, he was an avid joke teller who brought laughter to every conversation, often lightening the mood with a smile.

In his final moments, Rodney expressed to his children that “we just ran out of time.” He wished for his passing to be a time of remembrance and celebration of the life he lived, rather than one filled with grief and sadness.

A celebration of life will be held for close friends and family at a later date to be announced.

“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
