Stephen Patrick "Pat" Stanton, 77, a resident of Coalton, West Virginia, departed this life Saturday evening, Dec. 20, 2025, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, West Virginia.
He was born Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1948, at Elkins, West Virginia, a son of the late Edwin "Ed" Martin Stanton and Virgie Marie Shaw Stanton. On Nov. 28, 1970, at Coalton, West Virginia, he was married to the former Norma Jean Bender, who preceded him in death Feb. 25, 2016.
Surviving are one son, Stephen Patrick Stanton and wife, Michelle, of Coalton; two daughters, Donna Marie Stanton and companion, Dan Leonard, and Jennifer Lea Stanton and companion, Richard Wiseman, all of Coalton; four brothers, Mike Stanton and wife, Rosalie, of Buckhannon, Jeff Stanton of Buckhannon, Jim Stanton and wife, Edith, of Wheeling, and Mark Stanton of Elkins; seven sisters, Mary Williams of Elkins, Teresa Williams and husband, Bill, of Crawford, Agnes Wegman and husband, Roger, of Talbott Road, Margaret Williams of Elkins, Liz DeMoss of Buckhannon, Natalie DeBarr of Buckhannon, and Vickie Stanton of Elkins; eight grandchildren, Macie Higgins and husband, David, Brandon Higgins and wife, Alayna, Kristian Cooper, Summer Lewis and husband, William, Breanna Stanton, Peyton Stanton, Jeffrey Cooper and Owen Stanton; 12 great-grandchildren, Roman and Gabriel Higgins, Mayleigh, Pierson, and Ensleigh Higgins, Jameson McCauley, Jaxon, Lyllian, and Rylee Cooper, Willow, William Jr. and Wyatt Lewis and two on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one brother, Pete Stanton; and one sister, Joann Herron.
He attended the Coalton Twelve-Year School. Patrick spent 38 years in the coal mines working for Bethlehem Steel and retiring from Carter-Roag Coal Company.
He was an active member of the Saint Patrick's Catholic Church.
Patrick loved his coffee, splitting firewood, tending his chickens and loved sharing the produce from his garden. He was a hard worker, the family mailman and never met a stranger.
He was a "Grandpa" to many and loved his family tremendously.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday. On Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, Mr. Stanton will be moved to the Saint Patrick's Catholic Church at Coalton, where the Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Father Jim O'Connor will be the Presider, and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia.
