Mrs. Sylvia Lorraine (Morrison) Goodwin, 79, a resident of the Harding Community, departed this life Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, in the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, West Virginia.
Sylvia was born Dec. 21, 1945, at Belington, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Lewis Leonard and Mary Madeline (Browning) Morrison.
On Sept. 7, 1965, she was united in marriage to Gerald “Sherman” Goodwin, who survives at their home in Harding. They had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Pam Elmore and husband, Randall “who Sylvia considered her personal chauffer”, Mary Arbogast and husband, Dana, and son, Jamie Goodwin.; seven grandchildren, Justin Elmore (Audrey), Wes Elmore (Morgan), Cassie Lowery (Matt), Cody Arbogast, Caleb Goodwin, Dustin Goodwin (Melissa) and D.J. Goodwin; and 14 great-grandchildren, Lane, Cheyenne, Kadance, Coraline, Addy, Bentlee, Hadley, Wyatt, Teagan, Natalie, Avery, Myra, Hannah and Parker.
Also surviving are brothers, Raymond (Annette), Gary (Annette) and Jody; sisters, Maxine, Donna, Kathleen, Linda, Brenda, Mary Jo and Denise; sister-in-law’s, Alice Shomo (Bill) and Patricia Morrison; and brother-in-law, David Zirkle (Julie).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Geraldine May; and four brothers, Carl, Lewis “Junior”, Tom and Ritchie.
Mrs. Goodwin was a homemaker and caregiver to many neighbors. She was also a bonus “Gram” to many. Sylvia loved gardening, fishing, making jelly and hard tack candy to give away as gifts. She was famously known for her candy apples at Halloween for tricker treaters, both children and adults. She enjoyed attending and supporting the community and school fund raisers. Sylvia loved her family very much and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, from noon to 1 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Foster Williams officiating.
Per Sylvia’s request, cremation will then follow.
