Lorion George ‘Wimp’ Shockey

Mr. Lorion George "Wimp" Shockey, 90, a resident of East Bend, Mt. Liberty Road near Belington departed this life late Friday evening, Jan. 16, 2026, in the United Health Care Hospital at Clarksburg. Although, he had been in declining health, death was unexpected.

He was born June 19, 1935, at Belington, West Virginia, son of the late Leonard and Lela Pearl England Shockey. On July 3, 1969, he was united in marriage to the former Rosalea June "Rose" Jones, who preceded him in death on April 26, 1999.

Survivors include one daughter, Vickie Vandevender and husband, Kent, of Belington; one sister, Judy Harris and husband, Tom, of Belington; nephew, Lee Shockey and wife, Marsha, whom he thought of as a son; a great-nephew, Riley Haddix and wife, Emily, who he thought of as a grandson. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by an infant sister; three brothers, Larry, Joe and Ron "Donnie" Shockey; and one sister, Lillian Weese.

Wimp attended the schools of Barbour County and graduated from the Belington High School with the class of 1952. He was a former carpenter and worked with Pete and Bud Allen. He then left Barbour County and went to Michigan, and took a job with Ford Motor Company, where he was employed as part stamper in the Woodhaven Michigan Plant, from which he retired from in 1997. He then moved back home to Barbour County.

He was an avid sports fan, loved to take long drives, and was a hunter and fisherman. In his youth he played baseball and competed against local community teams and was remembered as an excellent player. He had a great love for Buckwheat cakes and loved to spend time with his Barbour County family and was a member of Mt. Liberty Church of Christ. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. and on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, from 8­11 a.m. at which time a funeral service will be conducted from the Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelist Michael Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington.
