William Keith Cooper

Mr. William Keith Cooper, 81, a resident of Belington, departed this life Friday evening, Jan. 16, 2026, in the emergency department of the Broaddus Hospital at Philippi, West Virginia. Although he had been in declining health, death was unexpected.

Mr. Cooper was born Nov. 20, 1944, at McWhorter, West Virginia, in Harrison County, a son of the late Hunter and Luella “Sis” Gaston Cooper.

On Nov. 2, 1972, at Philippi, West Virginia, he was united in marriage to the former Opal Virginia Moats, who survives at their home near Belington.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Darla Goff of Buckhannon, Kim Nestor and husband, Jared, of Belington; and one son, Brian Cooper and wife, Tonya, of Belington.

Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Mikala Banks and husband, Connor, of Clarksburg and Cody Cooper, Katelyn Cooper, Marshall Nestor and Cade Nestor, all of Belington.

Great-grandchildren surviving are Brielle, Henley and Wren Banks.

Also surviving are two sisters, Helen Randolph and husband, Everette, of Jane Lew, West Virginia, and Betty Sue Allen and husband, Donnie, of Horner, West Virginia; a special nephew, Jeff Cooper of Buckhannon; and several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Cooper; and two sisters, Stella Mae Fox and Mary Kennedy.

Mr. Cooper attended the schools of Harrison County graduating from Roosevelt-Wilson High School with the class of 1962. He served in the National Guard, and was employed as a well tender for Dominion Resources for over 30 years from which he retired. Mr. Cooper was an avid horseman, and loved to show horses from a very young age.

He loved to farm, attend his grandchildren’s activities and in retirement he and his wife would spend time together traveling.

Keith was a jokester and enjoyed cutting up with his friends. He was an avid bluegrass music fan, loved and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attended the Corley Church, was a member of the Belington Masonic Lodge 125 AF & AM, was a Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Belington American Legion Post 96.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at which time a funeral service will be conducted from the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Johnny Paul Williams II officiating.

Interment will follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington, where the Belington Masonic Lodge 125 AF & AM will conduct the Masonic Ritualistic Burial Rite.
