Mrs. Anna Mae Bender Shoulders, 85, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Monday afternoon Feb. 23, 2026, in WV Caring Hospice Facility at Elkins. Death was following a period of declining health.
She was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Elkins, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Richard and Flora Irene Wyatt Bender.
On Aug. 17, 1961, she was united in marriage to Gennis Junior "Buck" Shoulders, who preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 2012.
She is survived by four children, Ricky Shoulders and wife, Marla, of Belington, Edward Shoulders of Elkins, Wanda Burns of Elkins and Loretta Thompson and husband, Tony, of Logan County.
Siblings surviving are Barry Bender of Elkins, Eugene Bender and wife, Karen, of Montrose, Pauline Malcolm and husband, Paul, of Kentucky and Roger Bender and wife, Faye, of Elkins.
Additional survivors include 12 grandchildren, Carrie Moreland, Christina Lambert, Brittney Turner, Kevin Parrack, Bradley Parrack, Travis Burns, Brandon Burns, Autumn Shoulders, Takisha Shuman, Marcus Blankenship, Jessica Houge and John Calvin Blankenship.
Great-grandchildren surviving are Ashley Lambert, Shayla Collins, Kyleigh Crim, Garret Crim, Lilianna Crim, Bailey Chewning, Preston Chewning, Kynzie Chewning, Jayse Lambert, Breadon Long, Leland Long, Barry Burns, Wyatt Burns, Alice Burns, Harlow Crim, Aalihah Hogue, Trevor Hogue, Waylon Anthony, Chanel Collins and Aubree Lambert.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Peggy Lambert and Shelia Shuman; four brothers, Kenneth Bender, Bob Bender, Paul Bender and Jim Bender; and a sister, Kathleen Miller.
Anna attended the schools of Randolph County and was previously employed by Beta Shoe Company. She was Catholic by faith and loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed fishing, ramp digging, canning and she loved to cook. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie E. Tallman officiating.
Interment will then follow in the Laurel Fork Cemetery in Upshur County.
