Betty Jean Chenoweth

Mrs. Betty Jean (Booth) Chenoweth, 84, a resident of Belington departed this life Saturday morning, Feb. 7, 2026, at her home. She had been in declining health but death was unexpected.

She was born Feb. 5, 1942, at Belington, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Lee D. and Lena Mae Goodwin Booth. On Dec. 4, 1971, she was united in marriage to Robert Wilson Chenoweth, who preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1994.

Left to cherish her memory are three children, Debbie Matthew and husband, Allen, of Illinois, Kim Peters and companion, Brian, of Florida and Robert Lee Chenoweth of Belington, West Virginia; and one brother, Dana Booth and wife, Pam, of Belington, West Virginia. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Stephanie Matthew and husband, Michael, Sarah Matthew, Samantha Matthew, Michalea White and husband, Shawn, and Caitlyn Wilson. Additional survivors include nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Sue Chenoweth; three brothers, Gale Booth, Carl Booth and Jerry Booth; and one-half brother, Donald Daugherty.

Betty attended the schools of Barbour County and was a homemaker all her adult life. Betty was a member of the Belington Church of Christ and she enjoyed going to church and serving the Lord.

She enjoyed watching Yankee's baseball with her son and she enjoyed working puzzles. Betty also liked to bake and cook when she was able, and she especially loved to bake bread and pepperoni rolls for her family. She also enjoyed going to Dairy Queen to get ice-cream.

She loved her family and loved to spend time with her grandchildren whenever she could. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Per Betty's request a graveside service will be held Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at 1 p.m. in the Mt. Liberty Cemetery near Philippi with the Evangelist Michael Phillips officiating.
