Carolyn Madge Summerfield Elza, 82, a resident of Montrose, West Virginia, departed this life early Thursday morning, Feb. 12, 2026, at WV Caring Hospice Center at Elkins, West Virginia, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Thursday, Oct. 21, 1943, at Randolph County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Branson George Summerfield and Grace Creola Cooper Summerfield.
On Nov. 10, 2014, at Parsons, West Virginia, she was married to David Jack Keister, who preceded her in death Feb. 1, 2018.
Surviving are one son, Cecil Branson Wright and wife, Debbie, of Mishawaka, Indiana; one daughter, Glenda Jean Balint and companion, Marty Lemons, of Montrose; five grandchildren, Mindy Balint, Katie Betncourt, Michelle Wright-Collins, Brandy Close and Glenn Balint; a very special adopted grandson, Dale Edmonson; 12 great-grandchildren, Cobey Balint and wife, Alyssa, Triston Lanham and wife, Jozlin, Sadie Wilson, Branson Chenoweth, Trevor Chenoweth, Jasmine Betncourt, Savannah Betncourt, Braylee Betncourt, Manny Betncourt, Katelyn Marco, Nicholas Close; and Lacy Close; two great-great-grandchildren, Axel Lanham and Tyler Balint; and one great-great-grandchild on the way, Gracie Creolla Serrett; one niece, Sharon Sysinger; three great-nieces, Susan Hamilton, Crystal Summerfield and Sandice Thrasher; one nephew, Branson Summerfield; three great-nephews, Mike Hamilton, George Branson Summerfield and Derek Thrasher; and lifetime friend, Anna Mae Gainer.
Preceding her in death are four brothers, Glen Summerfield and Raymond "Dutch" Summerfield and two infants; one sister, Ruth Thrasher; two nephews, Mike Summerfield and Richard Thrasher; and one great-nephew, David Hamilton.
She was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1961, had worked as a secretary at the Randolph County Senior Center for several years. Carolyn was a very caring and loving individual who touched so many lives. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons from 10 a.m. to noon, Monday, Feb. 16, 2026.
Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home Monday at noon.
The Rev. A.H. Belt will officiate and interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows, West Virginia.
