Donna Mae Cross Cumberledge, 86, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, at WV Caring Hospice Center in Elkins.
Donna was born Tuesday, April 11, 1939, in Montrose, a daughter of the late Opha Cross and Lucy Mae Moore Cross.
On July 11, 1964, she married Jerry Cumberledge, who survives. They had celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Also surviving Donna are two daughters, Sandy Young and husband, Gary, of Beverly, and Paula Lynn Huffnagel of Elkins; two granddaughters, Amy Huffnagel of Elkins and Kaci Jones and husband, Chris, of Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Parker, Andrew and Elly; five siblings, Wanda Louise Cross Brenwalt Brookins, William Clyde Cross, Kenneth Bradford Cross, Larry Eugene Cross and Donnie Scott Cross; and several nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding Donna in death besides her parents are seven siblings, Richard Leon Cross, Junior Lee Cross, infant Dorothy Cross, Kathleen L. Cross Long Booth, Opal Dovey Cross Moran, Ruby Cross Leary and Bernard A. Cross.
Donna attended the schools of Randolph County and was a homemaker and a babysitter. She was never seen without something red on which prompted the nick name, Red Bird. She was a joyous person with a big heart that loved to make people laugh and enjoy life. She also had a special passion for sending care packages to our soldiers.
One of her favorite past times was spending time shopping at Wal-Mart and talking with people. She also enjoyed NASCAR, and her favorite driver was Jeff Gordon.
She loved her family, especially her two granddaughters. Donna was a longtime member of the Elkins Family Worship Center.
Donna's request for cremation will be honored, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
