Elwanda Jean Haddix Long, 90, of Gaines, West Virginia, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at home with her loved ones surrounding her.
She was born June 18, 1935, in Hall, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Atha Thomas and Agnes Clara Smith Haddix.
On April 9, 1960, she married Kermit Dale Long, who preceded her in death on May 14, 2016.
She is survived by three sons, John Michael Long, David Allen Long and Kermit Dale Long II all of Gaines; two grandsons, Dale Gene Powers (Erica) and Michael Long (Jess), all of Buckhannon, West Virginia; one granddaughter, Jenna Phillips of Gaines; seven great-grandchildren, Journey Phillips, Maysie, Adilynn, Christian and Colton Long and Brookly and Drake Bryant; three brothers, Gerald (Wilmajean) Haddix of Audra, West Virginia, Tom (Peg) Haddix of Volga, West Virginia, and Randy (Debbie) Haddix of Audra; one sister, Dot McDaniel of Wallace, West Virginia; five sisters-in-law, Taresa Haddix of Audra, Ginny Shoemaker of Elkins, West Virginia, Rita (Carl) Watson of West Virginia, Cheri Long of Maryland and Caroline Long of Buckhannon; one brother-in-law, Basil Long of Gaines; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Delmes Hamner and Patty Gregory. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Bob and Rick Haddix; two sisters, Joan Bennett and Margaret "Peg" Payne; one daughter, Jeanne Phillips; one son, Keith Edgar Long; one grandson, Kermit Dale Long III; five sisters-in-law, Sylvia Haddix, Barbara Ferren, Martha Long, Ellen Jean Bennett and Martha Leuszler; and eight brothers-in-law, Jim Bennett, Elwood McDaniels, Donald Long, Andrew Dixon Long, Burl Long, Davis Ross Long, Tom Joe Long and John Allen Long.
Jean was a homemaker that enjoyed quilting, reading and spending time with family and friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to Nicole Radabaugh for her loving and compassionate care as not only her physician, but her friend and the family also extend their thanks to WV Hospice.
Friends will be received Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m.Saturday, from the funeral home, with Pastor Rick Cutright officiating.
Burial will follow in the Salem Ridge Church Cemetery in Gaines.
