Marlyn Dexel ‘Deck’ Scott

Marlyn Dexel “Deck” Scott, 71, a resident of Valley Bend, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, at his home, under the care of West Virgina Caring Hospice and surrounded by his family.

Deck had fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past 17 months.

He was born May 12, 1954, at Hemlock, West Virginia, a son of the late Virgil Scott and the late Cleo “Tibby” Currence Scott.

On July 6, 1998, at Winchester, Virginia, he was married to Angie Shannon, who survives at Valley Bend.

Also surviving are three sons, Christian Scott and wife, Ashley, Valley Bend, Marlyn Scott Jr. of Mill Creek and Clifton Scott of Huttonsville; two daughters, Katelynn Torrence and partner, CJ Weaver, of Elkins and Sonya Atkinson and husband, Terry, of Huttonsville.

Three brothers, Marshall “Mart” Scott and wife, Valinda, Kelly Scott and Charlie Scott, all of Mill Creek; a sister, Barb Finlen of Huttonsville; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

Also preceding him in death were brothers, Melvin Scott and Marvin Scott and; sisters, Mary Scott, Martha Scott, Marilyn Scott, Lea “Jean” Shamblin, Helen Arbogast, Rella “Jane” Lower and Freda Scott.

Deck was employed as a heavy equipment operator for many years in the logging industry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved his grandchildren.

Deck was amazing man. He loved to play and coach baseball. He made an impact on the lives of many players he coached on and off the field.

He loved to watch Tygarts Valley High School basketball and baseball. Davis & Elkins College held a special place in his heart.

Deck and Angie invited many young men & women from across the country and world into their home.

Deck never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone. He had a heart of gold and will be missed by all.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 1: p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Randy Long officiating.

Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville.
