Sondra Kay Dunbar Jones, 88, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas.
Sondra was born Monday, Nov. 15, 1937, in Battle Creek, Michigan, a daughter of the late Myrlon Dunbar and Myra Vahs Dunbar.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
On Friday, Dec. 27, 1957, in Bellevue, Michigan, she married Milford Jones, who survives at home.
Also left to cherish her memory are two sons, Larry Guy Jones of Elkins and Steven Mark Jones and wife, Leslie, of Buffalo, Missouri; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her parents was one son, Albert Myrlon Jones.
Sondra was a graduate of Bellevue Rural Agricultural School and then attended Olivet College in Michigan. She had been employed as an accountant technician for Alaska Power Administration and the U.S. Coast Guard in Juneau, Alaska, and as an editorial assistant for the U.S. Forest Service in Washington, D.C.
Upon returning to West Virginia, she worked on the family farm with Milford. Sondra’s most important job was being a dedicated homemaker and the manager of the “Jones Holdings.”
She was very involved in her children’s lives. While they were growing up, Sondra worked in the PTA, TVHS Athletic Boosters and the Randolph County 4H Leaders. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and growing flowers and vegetables from seed in raised beds. Sondra also enjoyed participating in farm activities involving sheep, cattle, goats and geese.
Over the years, Sondra and Milford attended Woodford United Methodist Church, Orleana Methodist Church and Valley Bend Methodist Church. Sondra will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour.
Pastor Andrew Boley will officiate.
Sondra’s request for cremation will then be honored.
