Thelma Jean Rhea Moore, a woman defined by her boundless zeal for life and selfless devotion to her family, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love.
Thelmas was born at home in Mingo, on Thursday, May 20, 1943, a daughter of the late Frank Herbert Rhea and Mary Oleta Lindsay Rhea.
On Oct. 14, 1965, in Bridgewater, Virginia, Jean married the love of her life, Virgil Moore. She was a devoted wife and the very picture of selfless love, doting on Virgil until he preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 2025.
Jean is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly Jo (Ronnie) Bodkins of Valley Head, West Virginia, and Angela Kay (Dale) Shockey of Mabie, West Virginia; and one sister, Sherlene Rhea of Valley Head, West Virginia.
Her memory lives on through her grandsons, Timothy (Tausha) Daniels of Morgantown and Derrick Bodkins (companion Liz Blackburn) of Dailey; her granddaughter, Kelsey (Josh) Longbon of Mabie; and her great-grandchildren, Ellie Bodkins, Khallie Bodkins, Jace Blackburn, Liam Connelly, Beckett Longbon and Ryker Longbon.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were two brothers, infant Frank Zerron Rhea and Ronnie Lynn Rhea.
A graduate of the Tygarts Valley High School Class of 1963, Jean worked at the Reidbord Shoe Factory in her early adulthood and later worked at Snowshoe Mountain Resort and the Valley Head Market, but she spent most of her life being a loving wife, mother, and later, a grandmother. Known for her hospitality, Jean loved to cook and bake, ensuring that anyone who walked through her door was well-fed and offered a cup of coffee. To her family, she was the heartbeat of every gathering by being "Granny"; whether she was offering a cure for your illness, dancing with her grandchildren, or just making them giggle with her funny faces and signature catchphrases, she made everyone happy.
Jean spent the past three years on the memory unit at the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center. There she found a caring and compassionate staff that helped care for her. Her spirit and "quick wit" were met with care, and the family is most appreciative of the staff who cared for her, especially one nurse, Chelsea, whose presence, and care were a constant for the family and Jean. The family will always appreciate the care that was given to her when they could not be there.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour.
Rev. Paul Brady will officiate, and interment will follow in Mingo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made in Thelma's name to the Mingo Cemetery, 28558 Seneca Trail, Valley Head, WV 26294.
