Mrs. Joyce Opal York Lompert, 94, a former resident of Belington and more recently of Marlinton, West Virginia, departed this life Sunday evening March 22, 2026, in the Pocahontas Nursing Center in Marlinton. Death was following a period of declining health.
She was born Oct. 31, 1931, in Medway, Maine, a daughter of the late Roscoe Lovell and Elsie Labby York.
On Sept. 30, 1957, she was united in marriage to Walter John Lompert, who preceded her in death on April 11, 2011.
She is survived by one son, Walter "Wally" Lompert of Belington; one daughter, Elisabeth Retieffe and husband, Stephen, of Marlinton; and one sister, Harriet MacKeil of Bath, Maine.
Additional survivors include six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Harriet A. "Honey Lou" York Lompert; one sister, Lois York; and two brothers, Roscoe York and Ronald York.
Joyce attended the schools of Medway, Maine, and graduated from the Medway High School in 1947. She was a homemaker and Lutheran by faith and also attended the Catholic Church with her husband before his passing.
She was known as a crusader on what she believed.
She loved to collect handmade miniatures and glass collectables.
She loved her family greatly and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Friday March 27, 2026, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Deacon Raymond Godwin officiating.
Interment will then follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington.
