Mildred Faye Booth Tallman

TALLMAN

Mildred Faye Booth Tallman, 87, a resident of Tygart Valley Health and Rehabilitation in Belington, departed this life on October 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of family, friends, and devoted caregivers.

Born on Feb. 25, 1938, in Stringtown near Belington, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Charles Kenneth Booth and Edna Madaline Bennett Booth.

Known to many simply as Faye, she filled many roles in her life — mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend.

Faye was a proud graduate of Belington High School, Class of 1956. She had a special gift for crafting and sewing, creating beautiful clothing for dolls and stuffed animals that were admired by everyone who saw them. She loved playing Bingo with her sisters and was a big fan of Kenny Rogers, Elizabeth Taylor and the classic films Gone with the Wind and Hello Dolly. If you were lucky enough to be her Facebook friend, you knew how much joy she found in keeping up with loved ones and leaving thoughtful comments.

Throughout her career, Faye was devoted to working with children of all ages. Over the years, she served in elementary and middle schools, youth group homes and Head Start programs, where she made a lasting difference in many young lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene Tallman; son, Richard Grant Shomo; son-in-law, Jason “Chip” Meadows; two stepsons, Greg and Eric Tallman; sister, Shirley Booth Darnell; brother, Gary Dale Booth; sister-in-law, Joyce Bibey Booth; and brother-in-law, Jimmie Knight.

She is survived by her daughters, Vickie Shomo Meadows of Durham, North Carolina, Christy Massey Costakis of Hyde Park, New York, and Tiffany Ware Reams and husband, Bobby, of Belington; and by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Shomo, wife of Rich.

Also, by step-children: Jeff Tallman and wife Beverly, and LJ Tallman and wife, (her niece) Tammy, Lois Tallman, wife of Eric, and Vicky Tallman, wife of Greg.

She will be deeply missed by her loving siblings: sisters, Catherine Booth Knight and Jeanie Booth Coontz and husband, Jimmy; two brothers, Woody Booth and wife, Pat, and Harold Booth and wife, Charlotte; and sister-in-law, Connie Boylen-Booth.

Additional survivors include 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Battler’s Knob, Burbick Hall in Philippi, on Saturday, April 4, at 2 p.m.

A reception will follow, giving family and friends time to gather, share memories, and remember Faye with love and fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, Faye requested that donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org) in honor of her son, Richard Shomo.

Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mildred Faye Booth Tallman.
