Stanley ‘Butch’ Forrest Metz

Stanley “Butch” Forrest Metz, 82, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026.

Born on Oct. 31, 1943, in Cumberland Maryland, Butch was the son of the late Stanley L. Metz and Ruth Clark Metz.

Butch was a carpenter by trade and worked many different construction jobs throughout his career as a member of the Carpenters Union. He worked hard his entire life to take care of his family and raised his children to understand the importance of working hard and having a strong work ethic.

He was a 50-plus year member of Masonic Lodge No. 55 in Beverly and also served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department. Service to others was not just something he did — it was simply who he was.

Butch was preceded in death by the love of his life of 54 years, Sandra Darlene Metz.

Their marriage was a true partnership built on devotion, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Together they created a family that was the center of his world and a life to be proud of.

He was also proceeded in death by a sister, Nancy Liebec; and sons-in-law, David L. Lewis and Kermit “Gib” Gerbracht.

He is survived by his children, Michael Metz (Jill), David Metz (Brandy) and Machelle Lewis.

He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Nickelous Lewis (Shaina), Amanda Lewis, Mark Metz (Shelby), Matthew Metz (Sierra), Bradley Metz (Beth) and Tori Metz (fiance Conner Channels).

His legacy continues through his four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Brylin, Elli and Kinlee.

Butch never knew a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness, steady presence, and willingness to serve others left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 6, from the funeral home chapel.

Pastor Leon Brown will officiate and interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Airport Road, where Randolph Lodge No. 55 AF&AM will conduct Masonic Graveside Rites.

The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Stanley “Butch” Metz.
