Emily Swecker Thomasson

Emily Swecker Thomasson, 74, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed peacefully on Oct. 21, 2025. Born in Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Donald B. and Irene C. Swecker of Huttonsville.

Emily graduated from Woodbridge Senior High School in Woodbridge, Virginia, attended Virginia Commonwealth University, and earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Kennesaw State University, graduating magna cum laude in 1989. She enjoyed a successful career in the telecommunications industry, serving key roles with Contel, GTE Mobilnet, and Verizon Communications.

Emily is survived by her husband of 35 years, Edwin C. Thomasson, Jr.; sons, Timothy D. Hawkins (Lee Ann) of Knoxville, Tennessee; Edwin C. Thomasson III (Alice) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Spencer M. Thomasson (Stacy) of Little River, South Carolina; her siblings, Mark Swecker (Bonnie), Edith Votta (Richard), Ben Swecker (Brenda Quanstrom), Lisa Poole (Jeff), Kim Swecker (Sharon Goodall), Jeff Swecker (Mary), and Andrew Swecker (Tammy); beloved grandchildren, Jacob Hawkins, Mollie Hawkins, Clay Thomasson, Luna Thomasson, Anna Thomasson, Sully Thomasson, Gregory Rust, and Kirstin Spivey along with eight great-grandchildren.

Emily was devoted to her family and was known for her kindness, her sharp wit, sense of humor and helpful nature. She embraced innovation and technology while also appreciating tradition. She enjoyed organizing projects, traveling, collecting antiques and china, needlework, photography, and reading.

A former member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Glenmore, West Virginia, and Pohick Episcopal Church in Lorton, Virginia, she was a longtime supporter of Tyrand Cooperative Ministries in Mill Creek, West Virginia as well as The American Red Cross, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

A private graveside service will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville, West Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tyrand Cooperative Ministries, P.O. Box 365, Mill Creek, WV 26280. Arrangements are entrusted to Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins, West Virginia.
