Mr. Jessie Lee Shifflett, 79, a resident of Junior, West Virginia, departed this life early Wednesday morning, April 1, 2026, in WV Caring Hospice Facility at Elkins, West Virginia, following a period of declining health.
He was born on Dec. 22, 1946, at Beverly, West Virginia, a son of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Grace Olive Watson Shifflett.
On March 20, 1965, he was united in marriage to the former Janet Marie Watson, who survives at their home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Sharon Scott of Belington, Robert Shifflett and wife, Lisa, of Junior, Susan Howell and husband, Silas, of Belington, and Jessica Simmons and husband, Robert, of Belington.
Also surviving are 16 grandchildren,37 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Rosalee Owens; one brother, Wesley Shifflett; one sister, Ida Mae Wiseman, a great-grandchild; and a son-in-law, Robert E. Scott Sr.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Shifflett attended the schools of Randolph County and was formerly employed at Ware's Plaining Mill in Belington as a plainer operator. He loved woodworking and was known for making guitars, mandolins, and household cabinets. He could do anything when it came to woodworking. He loved to play music, especially the guitar and was lead guitar player at the Gospel Light Tabernacle in Elkins where he attended for many years. He loved his family very much and will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor A.H. Belt officiating.
Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery near Belington.
