Mary ‘Arlene’ Chidester Currence

Mary “Arlene” Chidester Currence, 77, passed from this life Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at home surrounded by family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.

Arlene was born Friday, June 25, 1948, in Long Run, a daughter of the late Virgil Chidester Sr. and Mary Ann Shockey Chidester.

On Aug. 7, 1964, she married Charles “Charlie” Currence. They celebrated 61 years of marriage.

From their union were born two children, Jimmie Currence and wife, Lenise, of Mill Creek, and Bertha Zirkle and husband, Les, of Mabie; four grandchildren, Alisa Currence of Greenbank, Anthony Currence and companion, Mary Beth Smith, of Huntington, Cori Ferry and husband, Donny, of Norton, and Leslie Zirkle and wife, Shelby, of Mabie, 10 great-grandchildren, Aleeya Wolfe, Amy Benjamin, Elianna, Eli, and Liam Ferry, McKenna, RaeLynn, RieLeigh and Remington Zirkle; siblings, Larry Chidester and wife, Diane, of Elkins, and Joseph Chidester of Mill Creek; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were three brothers, Virgil Chidester Jr., Billy Chidester and Leonard Chidester.

Arlene attended the schools of Randolph County and obtained her GED. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, precious mother and grandmother. Most of all, she was a Christian, a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. Arlene attended Blue Rock Union Mission Church; she was truly a child of the King.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11 a.m. in the Currence Family Cemetery on the family property on Prison Mine Road in Mill Creek. Pastor Scott Spotloe will officiate.
