Ruby Elizabeth Menis Elza, 91, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Saturday evening, April 4, 2026, at Valentine’s Personal Care Home at Elkins, West Virginia, with her loving family at her side and under the care of WV Caring. She had been in declining health.
She was born Thursday, March 28, 1935, at Job, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Giovanni “John” Menis and Georgia Geneva White Menis. She was married to Ernest Jennings Elza, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, John Thomas Elza of Elkins; two daughters, Debra Ruth Elza Hamrick of Elkins, and Kimberly Dawn Elza-Wilkie of Elkins; two grandchildren, Jayson Tyler Hamrick of Hurricane and Isabelle Olivia Wilkie of Elkins; and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Elizabeth Hamrick.
Preceding her in death are one sister, Ruth Diana Menis Dayton.
She was a graduate of Beverly High School with the class of 1953 and was a graduate of Mountain State College at Parkersburg. She had worked for the G.C. Murphy Company before college. She was a certified medical transcriptionist and had worked at Memorial General Hospital, Appalachian Mental Health Center and retired from Davis Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church and was active in the Women’s Group.
In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling and card club. She enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family and the grand pups.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 11, 2026. Final Rites will be conducted Saturday at noon. The Reverend Dennis McCoy will officiate and cremation will follow.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Beverly United Methodist Church, 531 Main Street, Beverly, WV 26253.
