Elsie Marie Hedrick Reed Davis

Elsie Marie Hedrick Reed Davis, 89, a resident of Parsons, West Virginia, passed away Thursday morning, April 30, 2026, at the Kingwood Healthcare Center in Kingwood, West Virginia, where she had been a resident for the last 10 months.

Elsie was born Saturday, Aug, 29, 1936, in Davis, West Virginia, a daughter of the late John E. and Elsie O. Reed. Her biological mother was Margie Hedrick Fowler and stepfather, Charles, who is also deceased.

On Dec. 11, 1954, in Oakland, Maryland, she was married to Verl Arthur âNubbyã Davis, who preceded her in death March 8, 2019. They had celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Left to cherish Elsie’s memories are three children, Barbara Dearborn and husband, Calvin, of Conway, South Carolina, Kathy Hovatter and husband, Rick, of St. George and VJ Davis and wife, Angie, of Hambleton; and son-in-law, Junior Hershman of Winchester, Virginia; seven grandchildren, RJ Hovatter and wife, Mindy, of Mannington, Nick Hovatter and wife, Solena, of Hendricks, Chris Veal and wife, Katie, of Parsons, Travis Veal of Tennessee, Cassidy and fiance, Joe, of Parsons and Luke and Trevin Davis of Hambleton; and 11 great-grandchildren, Coy, Baker, Eloise, Elliotte, Veal, Branson and fiance, Rossalea, Kaden, Brock, Rhys, Gage, Quinn Hovatter and Audrina Shelton; and a new great-grandchild due in November; niece, Vickie Hedrick, who was like a daughter; and one nephew, Punk Davis.

Preceding Elsie in death besides her husband and parents was her daughter, Susan Davis Hershman; and mother and father-in-law, Guy and Mary Davis.

Elsie was a graduate of Davis High School with the class of 1954. Elsie retired from McClain Printing Company, where she had been employed almost thirty years. In 1990, she was employee of the year. She had also worked at Tucker County Hospital, Tucker County Board of Education, Clover Farm Grocery Store and D&W Construction Company before beginning her employment at McClains in February of 1969.

In 1988, Elsie was voted by the Tucker County Chamber of Commerce for employee of the year. Elsie greatest joy was being with her family. Her faith was Pentecostal. She was an avid reader, also a notary for years. Mom Loved the Lord, she loved Chocolate, the sunshine and her time, and Elvis Presley.

But most of all she loved her family and friends. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Parsons Five Rivers Public Library.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, West Virginia, on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. The Reverend Kevin Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, West Virginia.
