Ira Duane Freeman Sr.

FREEMAN

Ira Duane Freeman Sr., affectionately known as “Pap”, passed away peacefully at United Hospital Center (UHC) on May 21, 2026 at the age of 79, going home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, following an extended illness.

Most recently, he was a resident of Mountain Living Community in Belington, West Virginia, and formerly of Moatsville.

Born to the late Ira D. and Marguerite Freeman, Ira was united in marriage to Reta “Jean” Davis of Sutton on March 27, 1965. Together, they shared a life full of love, family, and cherished memories.

Ira is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; his sons, Ira D. Freeman Jr. and Tom Freeman (wife Kristi) of Moatsville; and his four adoring grandchildren, Jaron Freeman (wife Rachel) of Grafton, Riley Freeman (wife Brittany) of Philippi, Mikhela Curtis (husband Sean) of Moatsville, and Brock Freeman (wife Taylee) of Bridgeport.

He also cherished his four great-grandchildren, Peyton, Paislee and Liam Freeman of Grafton, and Crew Curtis of Moatsville.

Ira is survived by his brothers, Lowell (wife Shirley) and Gary (wife Wanda) of Moatsville; and his sister, Loretta Norris (husband James) of Alabama; along with numerous nieces and nephews, whom were more like sons and daughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wilma Davis and Genelee Shuman; and two brothers, Kenneth and Murl Freeman.

A devoted outdoorsman, Ira loved hunting, fishing and trapping. He delighted in camping, boating, waterskiing (and footin’) and teaching others to ski. He was a talented heavy equipment operator, transforming hillsides into ponds, roadways and building sites.

Ira also had a deep love for gospel music. He enjoyed singing with the folks at Moatsville Free Gospel Church and cherished the “gospel sings” at surrounding churches, where his joyful voice brought smiles and inspiration to all who heard him.

Pap will be remembered for his generosity, faith, love of family and joyful spirit. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, music and faith will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He is now at peace, reunited with Jesus.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Sunday May 24, 2026, from noon to 3 p.m., at which time a funeral service will be conducted from the Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gary R. Freeman officiating.
