Jessie A. Colehower Somers

Jessie A. Colehower Somers, 100, a resident of Elkins and in the care of the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026.

She was born Feb. 28, 2026, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late C. Harris Colehower and Florence Sweeney Colehower.

On Aug. 3, 1968, in Radnor, Pennsylvania, she was married to Oscar C. Somers Jr., who preceded her death in December of 1972.

Jessie is survived by one daughter, Katherine “Kate” Somers and husband, Todd Miller, of Elkins; a niece, Virginia Hodges and husband, Dick, and nephew, John Colehower and wife, Susan.

Also surviving are two beloved grandchildren, Kaia and Quincy Miller; and many great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, John “Jack” Colehower and C. Harris Colehower Jr.; and sister-in-law, Doris T. Colehower Barger.

Jessie graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in education and pursued this passion in her work as a kindergarten teacher in Pennsylvania and New York, and later as a volunteer with Book Buddies during her years in Charlottesville, Virginia. She enjoyed travel, reading, and classical music, and expressed her enjoyment of musical theater as a member of the Savoy Company of Philadelphia.

Upon moving to Elkins in 2013 to be closer to her family, she became a member of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Jessie faced life’s challenges with a kind heart and a determined spirit that was evident to all around her, and she will be dearly missed.

Jessie’s request for cremation will be honored.
