Okey Ray Moore
MOORE
Okey Ray Moore, 88, a resident of Parsons, West Virginia, departed this life Thursday afternoon, April 30, 2026, at the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center at Elkins, West Virginia, with his loving family at his side.
He was born Thursday, May 6, 1937, at St. George, West Virginia, a son of the late Jesse Reed Moore and Hester Loretta Moore Holsberry. On June 15, 1958, at Central Chapel Church in Barbour County he was married to the former Mary Lucille Gainer Moore, who survives.
Also surviving are one son, Timothy Dean Moore and wife, Angela, of Harman; three daughters, Rebecca Ann Moore of Parsons, Deborah Lynn Kellar and companion, Stephen, Hill of Valley Bend, and Sandra Lea Simmons and husband, David, of Savannah, Georgia; one sister, Wilma Carol Pascale of Davidsonville, Maryland; and John Bonner, who was like a son; four grandchildren, Joshua Craig Kellar, Erica Dawn Kellar Brown and husband, Keith, Richard Blake Simmons and Ryan Lewis Moore; and one great-grandson, Nathaniel Craig Brown; and several nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one brother, Donnie Lee Moore; and one sister, Carolyn Faye Ankney.
He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1955. He was a veteran of the United States Army, enlisted from 1956 to 1960, where he was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama and Fort Jackson, South Carolina, as an aircraft engine mechanic and spent time in single rotor helicopters.
He attended Riverview Chapel Church. Okey had worked various jobs. He had worked for the Woodrow Price Sawmill, the City of Parsons, the Armor & Leather Tannery until its closing, the Laurel Run Mining Co. at Bayard, West Virginia, and in 1998, he retired from Consol Energy.
Okey enjoyed golfing with his son Tim, gardening, and hunting, and especially enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and cruise trips with his wife Mary. He dearly loved his family very much and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, West Virginia, on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 1 p.m. The Reverend Lonnie Daniels and The Reverend James Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, West Virginia, where the West Virginia Army Honor Guard, and the Tucker Co. Veterans Association will conduct full military honors.
