Delaine ‘Dee’ Forrest Hartman White

Delaine (Dee) Forrest Hartman White, 79, of Elkins passed away peacefully at her home on June 20, 2026. Death was sudden and unexpected.

Dee was born on Nov. 8, 1946, to the late James A. and Mary Nestor Hartman of Elkins.

On Aug. 18, 1974, she was united in marriage to Roy E. White, who preceded her in death on April 4, 2023. She is her survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Jason) Ferguson of Bel Air, Maryland. Her very special grandsons, Tucker and Micah, who she loved with all of her heart; her sister, Lorrayne (Russell) Corley of Elkins; nephews, Jim Corley of Baltimore, Maryland, and Craig (Andrea) Corley of Elkins; and numerous cousins, great nieces, and great nephews.

She is also survived her special group of high school friends, the TARTS.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dee was preceded in death by her infant brother, Jim Henry Hartman.

Dee was a graduate of Elkins High School in 1964, where she was active in the band and many other school activities. She attended Concord College and then earned her national laboratory technician certification in 1966 having worked at Princeton Memorial Hospital, Memorial General Hospital, and Davis Memorial Hospital.

In 1980, Dee and her brother-in-law, Russell, became co-owners of Hartman’s Flower Shoppe until retiring in 2009.

She held many offices including state president of FTD Floral Association and was the first Nationally Certified Wedding & Bridal Consultant in West Virginia. She served at various capacities at the Mountain State Forest Festival including assistant director for many years. She was a board member and volunteer for the Old Brick Playhouse performing in several productions and her favorite role as a dancing chef for the Polar Express. Dee had been an active member of the EHS Band Auxiliary and worked for many years as a volunteer for the Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins and also participated in many activities with the West Virigina Highlanders.

Dee enjoyed snowbirding for the past 15 years in Myrtle Beach, developing lifelong friendships. Dee was a proud Mountaineer, never met a stranger, and always had a story to tell.

The family suggest that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to The Old Brick Playhouse or the Interact Children’s Museum.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 11 a.m. The Reverend Tim Edin will officiate and interment will follow at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale, West Virginia.
