Victor Antonio Mastrogiuseppe Sr.
Mastrogiuseppe
Victor Antonio Mastrogiuseppe Sr., 97, of Coalton, West Virginia, passed away peacefully in his home on the morning of June 24, 2026. At the time of his passing, he held the honor of being the oldest living resident of Coalton.
Born on Oct. 14, 1928, in Coalton, West Virginia, he was the cherished son of the late Cesidio and Agatha (Petrella) Mastrogiuseppe, who emigrated from Pratola Peligna, L’Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy.
On May 15, 1951, he married the love of his life, Virginia “Ginny” Lee Poe. Together, they shared a beautiful and inspiring 73 years of marriage before her passing in 2024.
Victor was a proud veteran, serving his country from March 13, 1948, to March 12, 1951, and he often shared stories of his time serving during the WWII era.
Early in his career, he worked as a surface miner until surviving a near-death injury. Showing great resilience, he went on to graduate with a technical degree in electronics from Charleston. Victor later worked as a contractor for the BMC (Beverly Mill Creek) cable company and successfully operated his own cable business serving Beverly, Norton, Cassidy and Jane Lew. He also owned and operated a TV and electronics repair shop in Harding. He ultimately transitioned to working for the West Virginia Department of Transportation before transferring to the WVDOH, from which he retired in 1993.
Beyond his dedicated work ethic, Victor was a man of many passions. He loved to hunt, fish, mastered the craft of winemaking, and generously taught many in the family how to trap, find ginseng and morels. He lived fully and independently until his passing, maintaining a legendary garden where he still grew the best tomatoes in the county. Above all, he was an exceptional storyteller whose sharp memory and captivating tales will be cherished forever by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia “Ginny” Mastrogiuseppe; daughter, Virginia “Gigi” Manchin; three brothers, Agostino “Augie,” Albert and Alfred Mastrogiuseppe; four sisters, Mariadomenica “Minnie” Casperone, Antonetta “Ann” Prossper, Regina Olenick and Lenore Molinaro; his dear friend, Joseph “Peppi” Frank; and his nephew, Ron Mastrogiuseppe.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Victoria A. Harman and husband, Jake, and Debi L. White and husband, Jim; his son, Victor A. Mastrogiuseppe Jr. and wife, Melinda; and his son-in-law, Mark Manchin.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Vincent and wife, Chrissy Mastrogiuseppe, Crystal “Marcy” Manchin, Amy Mastrogiuseppe and husband, Walter Sanchez, Anthony and wife, Kara Manchin, Kathleen Manchin, John Ross and wife, Lindsay Harman, Tara Manchin, Allison and partner, Justin Miller, Hunter Mastrogiuseppe and partner, Lauren Thomas, and Scarlet and husband, Ardy Sayan; his great-grandchildren, Liam, Aiden, Isla, Corey, Casey, A.J., Laurel, Hazel, Weslyn, Gus and Loudin; his former daughter-in-law, Phyllis Mastrogiuseppe; several loving nieces and nephews; his best friend, Marshall Leo; his doctor, Alyson Leo; dear neighbor Anna Blosser; special niece and husband, Barbara and George Hern; and his dedicated caregiver, Victoria Romans, whom he jokingly referred to as his adopted daughter.
Victor was so deeply loved and will be missed by many. His legacy and memory will live on in our hearts forever.
Honoring the wishes of Victor, no services will be held and cremation was honored.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
