Forrest Brown “Brownie” Thomas

Forrest Brown “Brownie” Thomas, 93, a resident of Beverly, passed from this life Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Vandalia Health Davis Medical Center.

Brownie was born Tuesday, Sept. 20, 1932, in Belington, a son of the late Jessie Brown Thomas and Myrtle Belle Poling Thomas. He was twice married. First, he was married to Helen Louise Weese Thomas on July 7, 1956, and then to Helen Lucenda Rowan Thomas on June 1, 1991, both of whom preceded him in death.

Left to cherish Brownie's memory is a daughter-in-law, Lisa Thomas; three grandchildren, Daniel Thomas and wife, Taylor, of Elkins, Andrea Cassidy and husband, Steve, of Parsons, and Mandy Kyle of Texas; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Cassidy and Zion Bruce; four sisters-in-law, Barbara Carr, Arlene White, Mildred Weese and Georgie Waybright; one brother-in-law, Ed Weese; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Ellen Yoakum, with whom he made his home for the past three years; and a very special friend, Judy Bennett.

Preceding Brownie in death besides his parents and wives were his two children, Forrest “Danny” Thomas and Deborah Louise Thomas Kyle; his son-in-law, Tim Kyle; four brothers, Jessie Thomas, Arnold Thomas, Charles Thomas and Bernard Thomas; three sisters, Genivieve Thomas, Betty Johnson and Geneva Warner; four brothers-in-law, Willard Weese, Don White, Kenny Waybright and Bobby Lloyd; and one sister-in-law, Clarice âJuneã Thomas.

Brownie attended the schools of Randolph and Barbour County. He had worked for several area strip mines, Mountain Top Fuel, Polino Contracting, Circle D Logging, D&T Logging and Grimes Enterprises. He was considered to be one of the best dozer operators of his time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and was a wonderful cook.

He really liked growing tomatoes. He developed a skill for being quite the story teller.

Brownie's request for cremation will be honored. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
