Jerry Paul Cumberledge, age 87, a resident of Elkins passed from this life Monday, July 20, 2026, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, where he had been a resident for the past several months.
Jerry was born Tuesday, Aug 10, 1938, in Junior, West Virginia, a son of the late Charles Cumberledge and Georgia A Ware Cumberlege Costello. On July 11, 1964, he married Donna Mae Cross, who preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 2026; they had celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Left to cherish Jerry's memory are two daughters, Sandra K. Young and husband, Gary, of Beverly, and Paula Lynn Huffnagel of Elkins; two granddaughters, Amy L. Huffnagel of Elkins, and Kaci R. Jones and husband, Chris, of Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Parker, Andrew and Elly all of Colorado.
Preceding Jerry in death besides his parents and wife were his stepfather, Charles Costello; and brother, Marshall Costello.
Jerry attended the schools of Barbour and Randolph counties and graduated from Coalton High School with the class of 1957; he served in the Army 19611963 as a member of the 560 MPCO in Pleiku, Vietnam, was a construction worker, and a member of the 984 Laborers Union.
Jerry was a member of the Elkins Family Worship Center for many years and loved to hunt and fish. Jerry always had a big smile and was always willing to help others.
Jerry's request for cremation will be honored, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
