Joann Long Sponaugle

Joann was born Thursday, Aug. 26, 1937, in Parsons, a daughter of the late Joseph N. Long and Edith M. Canfield Long. On Nov 8, 1958, in Oakland, Maryland, she married Eugene Hayes âJimã Sponaugle who preceded her in death on July 10, 2009.

Left to cherish Joann’s memory are four daughters, Vera Nestor and husband, Michael, of Parsons, Delva Jean Morris and husband, Michael, of Hansford, Twyla Beth Ullom and husband, Steve, of Berkley Springs, and Linda Fansler of Terra Alta; one sister, Shelba Lowes; five grandchildren, Rachel Summerfield and husband, Chad, of Florida, Andy Tennant, Stephanie Tennant, both of Parsons, and Pam Nestor of Hambleton, and Cleta Ullom; four great-grandchildren, Chad Summerfield, Chase Summerfield, Mariah Tennant and Mae Tennant; and several nieces, nephews and her church family.

Preceding Joann in death besides her parents and husband, was a son, Harry J. Fansler; one brother, Kenneth George; and two sisters, Carol Patch and Faye Buckley.

Joann attended the schools of Tucker County. She had worked in the Nursery Bottom, then as a CNA for several in home care organizations and she was a homemaker.

She loved her family and she loved the Lord. She was a member of the Parsons Church of God.

Joann’s request for cremation was honored with private graveside services will be held at a later date.
