In Loving Memory of Joseph “JoJo” Pennington
Joseph “JoJo” Pennington was many things: a talented florist, a loyal friend, a beloved brother and uncle, and, depending on the day, a man who could occasionally test your patience. But, for those lucky enough to know and love him, there was no denying there was no one quite like him.
He had a strong personality, a quick wit, plenty of opinions and a little bit of spice that kept life interesting. He could make you laugh, make you shake your head and occasionally make you wonder if arguing with him was really worth it. But beneath that unmistakable personality was a man with a generous heart, a talent for making beautiful things and a love for his community that lasted more than 40 years
That was JoJo – He was unapologetically himself -- and that is exactly how he will be remembered.
JoJo was born May 28, 1958, and passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026. He was a proud graduate of Elkins High School class of 1976.
Shortly after graduation, he entered the family business and became a beloved florist in the town of Elkins for more than 40 years. JoJo dedicated his life to his craft and to the people he served. Through his flowers, he became part of countless celebrations, milestones, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and moments of remembrance. His work brought beauty and comfort to generations of families, but it was his heart, familiar smile, boisterous laugh and genuine care for others that made him truly special. He lived his life surrounded by a family and community who loved him dearly. To many, he was more than a florist--he was a friend, a familiar face and a cherished part of the community.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James “Jim” and Hilda Pennington
He is survived by his four siblings, James “Jimmy” and wife, Anna Pennington, Debbie and husband, Rick Legg, John and wife, Amanda Pennington, and Joni Crum. He is survived by his goddaughter and niece, Jessica and husband, Joshua Frantz; his niece, Jordan and husband, Jacob Bagwell; and his niece, Lindsy and husband Joshua Madden.
Left to remember him is one great-niece, Adalynn Madden; and three great-nephews, Parker and Hudson Bagwell and Declan Madden, who will carry his memory in their hearts.
The family would like to extend their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center for becoming JoJo's home during the final chapter of his life. The love, compassion, patience and dignity shown to him will never be forgotten. To the staff who cared for him, thank you for seeing the person behind the patient, for offering comfort when he needed it most, and for surrounding him with kindness and warmth. You became part of his family and gave his loved ones the peace of knowing he was cared for and loved. For that, his family and friends will be forever grateful.
JoJo loved sharing joy through flowers and there could be no more fitting way to honor his memory than to let that tradition continue. In lieu of flowers for him, the family invites you to support a local florist and give flowers to someone you love. Whether it is a beautiful bouquet for a special occasion or simply a single flower to let someone know you are thinking of them, share a little beauty and kindness in his memory. It is a simple gesture, but one that would have meant so much to him.
A celebration of JoJo's life will be held at a later date and time. Details will be shared with family and friends when arrangements have been made.
We have been blessed to share this life with his creative, colorful soul. Let his body be restored and resting in the arms of the ones who no doubt was waiting for him.
And, in the way only JoJo could say it, his final farewell to all of us is:
