Roger Leon ‘Jaybird’ Hedrick III

Roger Leon “Jaybird” Hedrick III, 26, a resident of Belington, passed from this life Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at his fiance’s residence as the result of smoke related injuries sustained in a house fire.

Jay was born Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, in Elkins, the son of Roger Lean Hedrick Jr. and Tina Jean Shamer Hedrick, who survive in Elkins. Jay was engaged to be married to Keana Fenstermacher, who also perished the fire.

Also left to cherish Jay’s memory is his sister, Olivia Faith Hedrick of Elkins; his maternal grandparents, Harlen and Thelma Shamer of Cravensdale; aunts and uncles, Jeff Hedrick and wife, Cassie, of Elkins, Harlen Shamer Jr. of Cravensdale; and cousins, Abby Shamer, Anthony, Kyle and Alivana Hedrick; and his best friends, Hank and Beth Ann.

Preceding Jay in death was his brother, Jacob Andrew “Meatball” Hedrick; paternal grandparents, Roger Hedrick Sr. and Linda Louise Channell Hedrick; his paternal great-grandparents, Eugene and Dorothy Channell.

Jay was a 2018 graduate of Elkins High School where he had been a proud member of the FFA and had developed quite the “green thumb.” He did odd jobs for people and was his mom’s “handy man.” An avid fisherman, Jay had dreams of becoming a professional fisherman.

Visitation will be held at Randolph Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 11a.m. until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. Rev. Randy Montgomery will officiate, and interment will follow in Elkins Memorial Gardens.

The Randolph Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Roger Leon “Jaybird” Hedrick III.
