Betty Jean Hinchman, of Morehead City, North Carolina, formerly of Beverly, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Aug. 20, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Our loving mother and grandmother will be deeply missed as she entered her eternal home.
Betty was a woman of strong faith who loved the Lord deeply. Her faith was an important part of who she was and a source of comfort throughout her life. Betty was the daughter of the late Ray and Elsie Swecker and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Hinchman. Also preceding her in death were two brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her three daughters, Julie Matthews (Randy), Brenda Miller (Mike), and Jennifer McLaughlin (Dennis); five grandchildren, Ashley, Samantha, Christopher, Jaime and Elijah; and four great-grandchildren, Reese, Ryder, Jase and Sydney. Also surviving are two sisters, four brothers and their spouses and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved and favorite companion, her dog, Bandit.
Betty will be remembered and deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Friends may call from noon until 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Harold Swecker and Pastor Deborah Swecker officiating.
Interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
