Elsie Kathryn Shrout Davis of Hambleton, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
She was born on Feb 19, 1940, in Cumberland, Maryland, to Elsie Nestor Shrout and James Elmer Shrout.
Following graduation from Parsons High School in 1958, she moved to Arlington, Virginia, and worked for Group Hospitalization, Inc. until 1960.
On October 29, 1960, she married Arlie C. Davis Jr., in Parsons, West Virginia, and together they built a life in Tucker County after four years in southern California. They raised four children and celebrated 65 years of marriage. They have six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Kathryn, known as “Snookie” to many, was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother. She was an Avon representative for more than 30 years and was a group leader and a member of the Avon President's Club and the Avon Honor Society for many years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by children Alisa (Paul) Poling of Hambleton, Rachelle Davis (James Baczuk) of Thomas, Arlie Shawn (Young E) Davis of Evans Mills, New York; and Ramona (Forrest) Smith of Mount Hope. Grandchildren include, Natalie Poling Dennis, of Elkins, Daniel (Jamie) Poling, of Buffalo, New York, Allison (Jacob) Massey, Charleston, Ethan Smith, Mount Hope; Andrew (Heather) Davis, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Nathan (Martika) Davis, Elgin, Oklahoma. Kathryn is also survived by sister-in-law, Judy Shrout Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by brothers, Phillip and Ray Shrout; and sister-in-law, Pauletta Shrout.
She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church (now St. John's Church) and served as the secretary of the United Methodist Women and the church photographer/historian for many years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed flower gardening and photography, having received numerous awards at fairs and festivals. Her work was also featured in many regional calendars.
The family would like to thank the subacute unit staff at Garrett Regional Medical Center and WV Caring.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. Pastor Donna Bolinger will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery.
