The Rev. Albert Henry “A.H.” Belt Sr., 88, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Sunday morning, Aug. 23, 2026, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, West Virginia, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sunday, Oct. 10, 1937, at Farmington, West Virginia, a son of the late Clarence O. and Marjorie Maxine Shreve Belt. On Jan. 30, 1960, at Pasadena, Maryland, he was married to the former Norma Lee Sizemore, who survives. They had celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Also surviving are two sons, Ronald Wayne Belt and wife, Rebecca, of Elkins, and Albert Henry Belt Jr. of Beverly; one daughter, Malinda Faith Proudfoot and husband, Craig, of Buckhannon; two brothers, Larry Richard Belt and Daniel Alan Belt and wife, Janice, all of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Katherine Louise O'Donnell, of Wachapreague, Virginia, and Retta Grace Boylen, Marion, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Ronnie and wife, Ashley, Bert III, Jeremy and wife, Courtney, Miriah, Tyler and wife, Tiffany, and Samantha; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are three brothers, Donald Edward Belt, Robert Lee Belt and Clarence “David” Belt; and one sister, Barbara Ellen Morris.
He attended the schools of Farmington and Baltimore, Maryland, and served in the United States Navy during peacetime following the Korean Conflict from 1955 to 1958. He received his bachelor's degree of the ministry and has been the Pastor of the Gospel Light Tabernacle for over 54 years as well as minister at Nella's Nursing Home. He had previously worked as a laborer for Bethlehem Steel at Baltimore, Maryland.
Reverend Belt will be remembered for his gentle manner, warm heart, kind words and comforting smile. He will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Gospel Light Tabernacle from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday. Final Rites will be conducted at the Gospel Light Tabernacle, Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at 11 a.m. The Reverend Danny Stottlemyer will officiate, and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Country Club Road, Elkins, West Virginia, where presentation of the American Flag will be accorded by the U. S. Navy.
