Donna Marie Mortimer Kent of Elkins, West Virginia, passed peacefully after a lengthy illness on Sept. 13, 2026, at the age of 99.
She was born in Rimersburg, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 11, 1927, to the late Ross W. and Harriet Walters Mortimer. On Nov. 6, 1947, Donna married Joseph Kent Jr. in Clintonville, Pennsylvania, at Grace Methodist Church, they had celebrated 42 years before Joe's passing on Dec 8, 1989.
Joseph and Donna had one daughter Eleanor “Jean” Anderson (Roger)of Elkins, West Virginia. They also had two grandchildren, Amanda Anderson Carter and Kent (Hope) Anderson; and five great-grandchildren, Cadence, Kennedy and Cohen Carter and Lily and Kinley Anderson.
In 1998, she relocated to Elkins to be closer to Jeanie and her family. She had been a resident for 28 years making Elkins her new home. She became an active member of Otterbein UMC, a member of Circle 1 and an honorary member of the JOY Circle. Donna loved serving her church through fellowship dinners and making her famous apple and pecan pies and breads and jellies for the annual bazaar.
As a young child Donna watched the ladies come to her parents' home to quilt. Her love of sewing continued to grow making Jeanie's clothes, prom and wedding dresses, then onto quilts. Each one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have a quilt âGreatã hand made for them.
Sharing her childhood stories of being raised on a dairy farm brought her great pride. One of the many stories was delivering milk, cottage cheese and butter out of the back of her father's Packard at the age of five.
In their early life Joe and Donna lived in Erie, Pennsylvania, and Donna worked as a proofer of gas meters at the American Meter Company and for over 20 years she managed the House of Fabrics & Yarns store and served as a Girl Scout Leader. She was an active member of Wesley UMC in Wesleyville, Pennsylvania, and was a member of the WSCS the early chapter of the United Women of Faith.
Donna was the last surviving member of her family and of Joe's family whom she shared many fond memories of times together.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her beloved husband, Joe; sisters, Virginia Kelly (Ted) of Franklin, Pennsylvania, and Eleanor Mortimer of Rimersburg, Pennsylvania. Joe's siblings, Huey, Bill, Ralph Grace, Beatrice, Ruth, Dorcas and Delores.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank her friends Margaret and Beth, the staff of Lavender Fields and WV Caring for their kindness and caring they showed Donna during her illness.
A Celebration of her life will be announced later.
The family has asked in lieu of flowers gifts may be made to Otterbein UMC 1100 South Davis Avenue Elkins, WV 26241 in her memory.
