Gertrude Helen “Trudy” Carowick, 87, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sept 15, 2026, at her home.
Trudy was born June 28, 1939 at Mill Creek, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Frank May and Mae Houk May. On June 27, 1959 at Mill Creek, Pennsylvania, she was married to Clair Edward Carowick, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Clair Carowick Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Elkins, Mark Carowick and wife, Toni, of Mt. Union, Pennsylvania, Gary Carowick of Kerns; and one daughter, Hollie Pritt and husband, Derrick, of Montrose.
Seven grandchildren, Joseph Carowick, Katie Carowick, Zachary Carowick and Heather Carowick, Ben Carowick, Jacob Pritt and wife, Braley, Brooke Pritt; and one brother, Phil May of Mill Creek, Pennsylvania, also survive.
In addition to her parents, Trudy was preceded in death by one brother, Frank May Jr.; and one sister, Peg McMullen.
Trudy was a 1956 graduate of Huntingdon High School of Pennsylvania She had worked at the Memorial General Hospital and Davis Memorial Hospital where she assisted doctors and she worked as an assistant insurance agent with Parrack Nationwide Insurance for many years until her retirement. She was a member of Elkins Women's Club, The First United Methodist Church, FUM. Choir, Women in faith, FUMC Backpack Program, We Care, Sunday School Program and Youth Leader. Trudy also served as assistant pastor, lay speaker, Webelos scout leader, head start assistant teacher at Pennsylvania, she led Bible Studies, she was a Fresh Air Foster Parent and an EABA officer.
Trudy's request for cremation will be honored. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church of Elkins. Pastor Tim Eden will officiate.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to W.V. Caring Hospice, P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 or the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Street, Elkins, WV 26241.
The Tomblyn Funeral home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Gertrude Helen “Trudy” Carowick.
