Marvin D. “Shorty” Currence, 99, a resident of Cassity, passed away peacefully on Sept.11, 2026 at Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center in Elkins under the care of WV Caring Hospice.
Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tristan Tenney and Rev. Stella Fay Moyer officiating. Interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by members of the Upshur County Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 7 of Buckhannon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VFW Post 5583, Attn: Charles Lowther, P. O. Box 304, Dailey, WV 26259 or Mountain Memories Retirement Center, 301 Wilson Lane, Elkins, WV 26241.
Shorty's family is most grateful for the tender loving care that the staff at Mountain Memories provided for Shorty the past two years.
