Robert “Bob” Lee Arbogast, 92, a lifelong resident of Beverly, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept 4, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Bob was born July 24, 1934, at Elkins, a son of the late Willard and Eva Arbogast.
On April 3, 1954, he married the love of his life, Anita Charm Arbogast, who preceded him in death in September 2009.
Bob spent his life deeply rooted in the Beverly community. A true woodsman, he enjoyed working in the woods alongside his father and later shared that same tradition with his sons. Prior to suffering a stroke in 2012, Bob was a familiar sight around Beverly. He could often be seen walking through town, delivering firewood by wheelbarrow to local residents, or visiting area churches and nursing homes with his guitar and banjo in hand.
Through his music, Bob shared two of the greatest loves of his life: His deep faith in Our Lord and Savior and his love of Bluegrass music.
He also had a lifelong love of steam-engine trains, a fascination that began during his childhood while living in Flint, West Virginia. The sights and sounds of the engines stayed with him throughout his life, and his favorite was Cass Scenic Railroad's Shay No. 5.
Bob also found great joy in gardening and flowers. He appreciated the simple pleasure of working with his hands, watching things grow, and tending to the beauty around his home. He was also well known in the family for his homemade dumplings and biscuits.
Bob had a special love for cats and was rarely without one nearby. His kindness extended to the stray cats that wandered around his home and he could often be found putting food out for them and making sure they were cared for.
Following his stroke, Bob was able to remain in the comfort of his own home for the final 14 years of his life, where he was lovingly and devotedly cared for by his daughter, Cindy Arbogast.
Bob is survived by three sons, David Arbogast and wife, Patty, of Beverly, Ronald Arbogast and wife, Juanita, of Elkins, and Timothy Arbogast and wife, Anna, of Crystal Springs; and two daughters, Cindy Arbogast of Beverly, and Cathy Lanham and fiance, Dave Jones, of Montrose.
Also surviving are his granddaughters, Jacklynn Pudder and husband, Nathan, of Elkins, Michelle Arbogast and partner, Jesse Wells, of East Dailey, Amy Emery and husband, Brady, of Stevensville, Maryland, Chelsea Riley of Beverly, Megan Weese of Davis, and Alexandria Roberts of Nashville, Tennessee.
Bob was also blessed with five special great-grandchildren whom he loved and enjoyed dearly, Mason, Lily, Teaghan, Hallie and Leo.
Bob also held a special place in his heart for Sheila Arbogast and Greg Weese, who remained cherished members of his family throughout his life. Though family circumstances changed over the years, Bob's love for them never did, and the bonds they shared remained deeply meaningful to him.
Bob was known for his warm smile, one that people remembered and loved, and for the small traditions that made him so special to his family. He was famous among his grandchildren for carrying a pocket full of quarters, always ready to hand one out whenever he saw them.
In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Goff Arbogast; and one special uncle whom he considered his brother, Atha “Bake” Arbogast.
Bob will be remembered for his strong faith, his love of family, his music, his hard-working spirit, his love of steam engines, gardening and flowers, his homemade dumplings, his soft spot for cats, and the many simple acts of kindness he shared throughout the Beverly community. His familiar smile, the sound of his banjo, a pocket full of quarters for the grandkids, and the traditions he created for his family are memories that will be carried with love for generations.
Visitation will be held at Randolph Funeral Home on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, from noon until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Rev. Leon Brown will officiate, and interment will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery near Beverly.
