Shirley Ann May Smith, 89, a resident of Elkins passed from this life Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, at Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Shirley was born Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1937, in Cumberland, Maryland, a daughter of the late Hazel Ann May.
Left to cherish Shirley's memory are five children, Denneatta Lewis of Beverly, Mike Harris of Columbus, Ohio, Beth Harris of Elkins, Lori Tracy and husband, Donald, of Elkins, and Matt Smith and wife, Rebecca, of Tunnelton; 10 grandchildren, Tekoa Jones and husband, Jon, Tekisha Waddell and husband, Matthew, Josh Wamsley and wife, Lindy, Jacob Piercy, Courtney Harris, Shawn Arbogast, Kayla Arbogast, Michael Harris and wife, Amanda, Alexis Slatoff and husband, Nick, and Janie Harris; 12 great-grandchildren; two birds, two dogs, and her Elkins Family Worship Center family.
Preceding Shirley in death besides her mother was a son, Wilson Harris; and many of her beloved animals.
Shirley was a hard worker all her life. She had worked for Beta Shoe Company, Reidboard Brothers, the I.O.O.F. nursing home, the Iron Horse Motel, and doing in-home care for many years. She also had volunteered at Good Shepherd Clothing Center helping sort and often bringing many things home with her.
One of the things Shirley valued the most was her church where she served in many âhelps ministryã positions including nursery volunteer, choir member, greeter, YAH outreach volunteer and church yard sale volunteer. She also loved dirt track racing and wrestling. And those who listened frequently would recognize her voice heard often on the âTrading Postã either buying or selling. Shirley loved her family and will be missed by all those who knew her.
Visitation will be held at Randolph Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, from 1 until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Rev. Jamie Estep will officiate, and Shirley's request for cremation will then be honored.
