Harry Joseph “Joe” Harman, 82, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, with family at bedside and under the care of West Virginia Caring Hospice.
Joe was born on March 10, 1944, in Harman, the son of the late Harry and Helen Harman. He was married to Reva Jean âJohnstonã Harman, on Aug. 27, 1966, in Red House, Maryland. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage. They have two children, Chad Wesley Harman of Harman and Heather Jo Brown and husband, Keith, of Valley Head. He was a proud Pap to his grandchildren, Joseph Wesley Harman and Addison Marie Brown along with one great-grandchild, Brooklyn Jo Harman, along with many nieces and nephews who all loved their, Uncle Joe. He also survived by his sisters-in-laws, Nettie Johnston of Canaan Valley, Faith Mininger and husband, John, of Hickory, North Carolina, and Jean Harman of Elkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Blair Harman; sister, Barbara Sue Lambert; his in-laws, Everett and Beatrice Johnston; and a special aunt, Twila Mauzy; and niece, Cheryl Harman.
Joe worked in construction for many years. He began his career with Harman Construction, then spent 19 years working at Greenbrier Aggregates as the plant manager, before retiring from MEC Construction, where he worked as a crane operator.
Outside of work, Joe could often be found on the family farm, spending his weekends helping with the cattle, making hay, or doing whatever needed to be done. You could usually find him sitting under Aunt Twilaás carport, watching the cars go by or chatting with those who stopped to visit. Joe was the organizer of the annual ramp dig, a tradition he looked forward to every year. Those days, surrounded by family and friends, were especially meaningful to him.
Joe was a constant in our family-the fixer, the problem-solver, and the one person anyone could call when they needed help. He was always there, no matter what was needed, and he never hesitated to lend a hand. He was truly one of a kind. His kindness, hard work, humor, and willingness to help others will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Fredlock & Fenner Funeral Home -- Davis Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., with Pastor Susan Metzner officiating. Interment will follow at the Buena Cemetery in Canaan Valley.
