Additionally, one family had a special place in Wayne's heart, the Finchams. Jim and Genna and their children; Jimmy, Amanda, Amy, Abby and their families. He also considered Caitlyn Southern to be a granddaughter.

He was a business owner for several years, worked for the Department of Highways, the local limestone quarry, the City of Elkins and Tygarts Valley Sanitation.

Wayne was well known for his archery and hunting skills. He performed archery exhibitions at many fairs and festivals, including the Mountain State Forest Festival.

In the early 80s, he was a five-time state champion in archery and sixth in the nation in Bowhunter freestyle. He enjoyed fishing in the summer and ice fishing in the winter with his closest friends on Spruce Knob Lake.

His favorite pastime was hunting. Wayne mentored numerous youths to the joy of the outdoors and its activities, such as hunting, fishing, trapping, archery, etc.

Wayne loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and shared that love and witness whenever he had the opportunity. His memory will forever live in our hearts on every deer hunt, auction, meal shared and every story passed down through the generations. Though our hearts are heavy, we are comforted knowing that his life was long, full and meaningful.

Wayne's wish for cremation was honored, and a celebration of life will be held this Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the Elkins Family Worship Center, 1402 Taylor Avenue, with the Rev. Joey Ridenour officiating.
